Celebrate the Wet Season this school holidays with Creek Connections Nature Camps: a four-day program designed for young people aged 12–18 years. This immersive nature camp invites participants to explore their local creek catchments as they come to life with water, colour and movement.
Each day is packed with activities that connect young people with nature, art and local knowledge. Participants will have the opportunity to:
Walk local creeks and observe seasonal changes
Spot native birds, butterflies and other wildlife
Join night-time spotlighting sessions
Take part in hands-on art workshops inspired by nature
Led by local artists, youth workers and wildlife experts, including youth worker Mitch Rose, Larrakia knowledge-holder Leslie Gordon, and artists and educators Janie Andrews, Emma Lupin, and Nalani Sawyer.
The camp offers flexible participation. Young people can join the full program in their local catchment or attend individual days that suit their schedule. Each experience is designed to spark curiosity, build skills and strengthen connections to local places.

Creatures of the Creek: A Larrakia Perspective at Mitchell Creek
Tuesday 20 January 2026 from 4:30pm – 6:30pm
Begin the journey with Larrakia knowledge-holder Leslie Gordon, who leads the opening session of Creek Connections Nature Camp. Together, we’ll explore the plants and animals of our urban creeks, learn a few animal names in Larrakia, and take part in a guided walk, story time and conversation along Mitchell Creek.
This session is designed for young people aged 10-16 years. Those requiring a support person are welcome to attend with an adult.
A wet weather alternative may be held at Durack Community Arts Centre, depending on the day.
Creatures of the Creek Discovery Day
Wednesday 21 January 2026 from 9:30 am – 3:30 pm at Durack Community Art Centre and Mitchell Creek.
Join youth worker and BirdLife Top End member Mitch Rose, alongside Landcare educators, for the wildlife-focused day. Begin with birdwatching basics, then out to look for lizards and use iNaturalist to record your observations. A shared lunch is included.
The session begins at Durack Community Arts Centre, with creek visits by bus.

Creatures of the Creek Creative Day
Thursday 22 January 2026 from 9:30am – 3:30pm at at Durack Community Art Centre and Mitchell Creek.
Join local artist Janie Andrews and Landcare NT educator Emma Lupin for the creativity and connection day. Begin with sculpture making inspired by nature, followed by a shared lunch and an afternoon of discovering and creating natural patterns through art.
The session begins at Durack Community Arts Centre, with creek visits by bus.
Wet weather may keep us indoors.
Any young people requiring a support person are welcome to attend with an adult.
Creatures of the Creek Spotlight Event
Thursday 22 January 2026 from 7:00pm – 8:30pm at Mitchell Creek
Wrap up the catchment program with a spotlight adventure led by Landcare educators. Take a short walk along Mitchell Creek and discover what comes to life after dark, learning about the animals that emerge as the light fades. Meeting location will be sent on RSVP
