Tools for Monitoring Wildlife Workshop

March 7 @ 9:00 am - 2:30 pm

Landcare NT, Land for Wildlife and Territory Natural Resource Management invite you to a hands-on workshop to learn simple, practical ways to monitor wildlife and contribute to citizen science.

The workshop will support community Landcare groups and Land for Wildlife members to build confidence and practical skills in wildlife monitoring, focusing on local creek systems and privately owned bush blocks. These areas often contain important wildlife that goes undocumented, making community-led monitoring valuable for filling knowledge gaps.

This relaxed and practical workshop offers plenty of opportunities for shared learning, questions, and problem solving. You’ll leave with the skills and confidence to collect useful data to help you understand what animals are using the habitat in your area, how habitats are working and how your land management is making a difference.

During the workshop, you will:

  • Explore why wildlife monitoring matters for understanding biodiversity and change
  • Learn how motion-sensor cameras work
  • Get hands-on experience setting up cameras
  • Learn how to retrieve images and manage data
  • Discover how to share wildlife observations using citizen science tools such as iNaturalist
  • Learn how to carry out a standardised 20-minute 2-hectare bird survey using Birdlife Australia’s Birdata App

This workshop is free to attend but please REGISTER HERE

Morning tea and lunch provided.
