The Roper River Landcare Group (RRLG) was established in 1993 as a result of concern about the extent of Parkinsonia aculeata infestations, particularly on Elsey Station.
The Group is made up primarily of land owners, land managers, and residents committed to monitoring, maintaining and improving the Roper River catchment and its natural values.
The Roper River is fed by underground aquifers which keep the river flowing throughout the dry season. It begins its journey from the spring country of Mataranka, including Bitter Springs, Mataranka Springs and Elsey Springs. The river then flows across the Roper Bar to where it finally meets the Gulf of Carpentaria, at the community of Ngukurr.
RRLG is a pastoral based land management group who work with members and stakeholders to improve NRM practices throughout the Roper catchment.
Members benefit directly from RRLG’s activities through one-on-one and regional conservation projects that deliver social, economic and environmental benefits.
