Help Deliver Practical Conservation Across the Territory

Are you a skilled environmental professional with a passion for community-led stewardship and sustainable land and water management?

We're looking for a motivated Land and Water Management Coordinator to lead on-ground conservation projects that protect ecosystems, support healthy waterways, and strengthen community partnerships across the Northern Territory (NT).

About the Role
The Land and Water Management Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring conservation initiatives that enhance biodiversity, improve waterway health, and support sustainable land management practices. This role works closely with community and government agencies to deliver on-ground conservation projects, engage volunteers, and promote best practices in natural resource management.

The Land and Water Management Coordinator will be a part of a multi-disciplinary team with expertise in natural resource management, community development, education and communications, to achieve shared goals. The role will also work to strengthen Landcare NTs commitment to First Nations knowledge and partnerships. Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll be responsible for:

Land and Water Management

  • Plan and implement land and water management programs to restore and protect native ecosystems.
  • Oversee on-ground activities, including revegetation, weed management, erosion control, and habitat restoration.
  • Ensure all conservation activities comply with regulatory requirements, environmental legislation, and funding agreements.

Project & Program Management

  • Manage the delivery of conservation projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to a high standard.
  • Work with partners and government agencies to align initiatives with broader environmental objectives.
  • Assist partners in the survey, assessment and monitoring of on-ground projects.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with First Nation land managers, community groups, and key stakeholders.
  • Assist with grant writing, reporting, and acquittal processes to secure and maintain funding for environmental programs.

Community Engagement & Volunteer Support

  • Facilitate community participation in conservation activities through workshops, events, and on-ground projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to Landcare groups, volunteers, and community members.
  • Strengthen relationships with community, government agencies, and First Nation land managers to support collaborative conservation efforts.

Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy

  • Represent Landcare NT in natural resource management forums, policy discussions, and industry events.
  • Work with government agencies and funding bodies to advocate for community-led conservation initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance community awareness of environmental conservation.

Operational & Administrative Support

  • Maintain accurate project documentation, records, and reports for funding and compliance purposes.
  • Provide advice to the Operations Manager and Chief Executive Officer on natural resource management strategies, emerging trends, and funding opportunities.
  • Support risk management, safety, and compliance processes related to conservation activities.

What We’re Looking For
To thrive in this role, you’ll need:

  • A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Conservation Management, Natural Resource Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Current NT Driver’s Licence (essential).
  • First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
  • National Police Check and Working with Children Clearance - Ochre Card (or willingness to obtain).
  • Strong knowledge of conservation principles, ecological restoration, and sustainable land and water management practices.
  • Experience in delivering on-ground land and water management projects and, or environmental education initiatives.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations, policy frameworks, and grant compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, such as community volunteers, government agencies and First Nation communities to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, budgeting and evaluation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including high-level reports, funding proposals and operational resources.

Bonus Skills (Highly Regarded, but Not Essential)

  • Knowledge of Landcare principles, community landcare in the NT and, or the environmental sector in the NT.
  • Experience working with First Nation communities.
  • Proficiency in GIS mapping and ecological monitoring tools and methodologies.
