Landcare NT’s 2023-2024 Annual Report is Now Available!

We are pleased to share our 2023-2024 Annual Report!

This year’s Annual Report highlights our impact over the last year including playing a central role in raising awareness and support for community Landcare across the Territory through a number of projects, collaborations and our funding advocacy campaign.

A major achievement was securing $3.8M from the Federal Government for the Darwin Harbour Catchment Waterways Project. This significant project provides vital support to our member groups within the catchment area, including Casuarina Coastal Reserve, Rapid Creek, Ludmilla Creek, and Mitchell Creek Landcare groups. Importantly, this project creates new opportunities for youth, migrant and community groups to engage in Landcare activities.

Another exciting highlight was our collaboration with Territory Native Plants and the Darwin Wildlife Sanctuary in delivering Semester 1 of our Flora, Fauna, and Biodiversity Science Education Program. This initiative was extremely well received by Top End primary schools, offering practical learning and experiences to connect with our native flora and fauna.

Our other key projects have included:

  • Arid Lands Agricultural Community Connections Project
  • Landcare NT Fundraising Event at Deckchair Cinema
  • Supporting the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) World Conference in Darwin
  • Landcare NT stall at the Darwin Festival’s Teddy Bear Picnic
  • Landcare NT hosted a forum with United Nations delegates and Indigenous Rangers from across Australia to discuss caring for Country and cultural perspectives of ecological degradation
  • Regenerative Rangelands Workshop - Centralian Land Management Association with support from Landcare NT and Connellan Trust delivered a 1.5-day Regenerative Rangelands workshop in September 2023.
  • Two Environmental Volunteers Gatherings - one in the Top End and one in the Arid Lands, to say “Thankyou” to all the wonderful volunteers and to celebrate the year’s amazing achievements and hard work.
  • Northern Territory Landcare Awards

We also saw significant growth in our membership over the 2023-2024 year, reaching 25 Group Members and 33 Associate Members. This is a positive reflection of the work undertaken to improve member services, deliver environmental education and on-ground projects, raising the profile of community Landcare, and passionately advocating for increased resourcing for Landcare in the Territory.

And finally, the continuation of the Landcare NT Master Insurance Program has ensured all Group Members have protection for the health and safety of volunteers and their activities. Landcare NT continues to provide this free for Group Members!

We are grateful to all of our members, our board, our many partners and funders and our staff for all of their hard work and contributions over the last year, and for helping grow the Landcare movement in the NT, which continues to make a difference for our landscapes, our communities and for our future generations.
