Landcare NT 2024 AGM and Members Gathering
Landcare NT members came together last Thursday to reflect on a year of amazing achievements at our Annual General Meeting and Members Forum held at Melaleuca Australia in Darwin.
Community Landcare representatives from ten different Member Groups across the Territory attended both online and in-person, making the most of the opportunity to network and share stories about the trials and tribulations of community Landcaring. As always, the diversity of Landcare activities was impressive - from weeds to wellbeing and everything in between; the never-ending passion for making our NT landscapes heathier and more resilient was evident, with the lively discussion continuing well into the evening!
The AGM also provided a time to reflect on the significant growth in membership over the 2023-2024 year and the positive work undertaken to improve member services, deliver environmental education and on-ground projects and to raise the profile of community Landcare through many well-attended community events. New projects such as the Darwin Harbour Catchment Waterways Project, the Flora, Fauna and Biodiversity Science Education Program, the Top End Eco-Fair and Arid Lands Agricultural Community Connections Project highlighted the amazing and innovative ways that community Landcare is growing and engaging the broader community, schools and industry in environmental stewardship.
Despite these incredible achievements, Landcare NT acknowledged that sadly the NT remains the only jurisdiction that does not receive any funding from its state / territory government. Looking ahead, the 2024 – 2025 year will see Landcare NT continue its focus on securing increased resources for community Landcare, vital to meet the needs of our growing membership and ensuring Landcare groups can sustainably continue their critical work caring for the lands and waterways across the Northern Territory.
Landcare NT warmly welcomed the new Management Committee including:
- Andrew Kenyon (Chair)
- Annie Andrews (Vice Chair & Public Officer)
- Travis Williams (Treasurer)
- Emily Laurie (Secretary)
- Andrew Peart, Brooke Ah Shay, Sandy Griffin and Norbu Gyeltshen (General Members)
Thank you to everyone who attended and to all of our members and our board for your continued passion and dedication to protecting our precious places and ensuring a more sustainable environment for future generations.
