Landcare Week celebrates our hard-working land managers and volunteers – September 2016
What a great way to celebrate the end of Landcare Week with the Bushcare Major Day Out at McMinns Lagoon Reserve. A huge thanks to everyone who came out today and helped plant the 80 trees supplied by Land For Wildlife Top End and took part in the bird walk as well as stalls and talks by Environment Centre NT , Territory NRM, Litchfield Lions Club, Wildcare Inc NT, Darwin Wildlife Sanctuary, Litchfield Council, Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife, Fairy Jill's Enchanted Entertainment and Member for Nelson, Hon Gerry Wood. Mangarrayi Rangers get on top of Bellyache Bush in the Roper
In preparation for Landcare Week Landcare NT Coordinator Anna Boustead caught up with Roper River Landcare Group Inc in the beautiful spring country of the roper valley. The group host the Mangarrayi Rangers, who have been very busy controlling Bellyache Bush, a tough weed which takes over riverine areas.
Mitchell grasslands feature during Barkly Landcare Workshop at Newcastle Waters
As part of Landcare Week, today we feature Barkly Landcare and Conservation Association, which hosted a workshop we attended last week at Newcastle Waters Station. Together with pastoralists from the Barkly/VRD regions and scientific experts from the NT and QLD governments, we learned out the incredible Mitchell grasslands and how to prevent land degradation occurring by working out the most appropriate grazing pressure and timing it with the seasons. The workshop was funded by the Australian Government.
