New Landcare NT Website Takes Off!

New Landcare NT Website Takes Off!

Landcare NT, the Territory's peak body representing Landcare groups, officially launched a new website this week to connect Territorians with their local Landcare groups.

The website was officially launched by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Hon Kezia Purick and Chair of Landcare NT, Ms Sue McKinnon (pictured), at a ceremony at Parliament House on Thursday, April 13 attended by Landcare members, partners and supporters.

Larrakia Traditional Owner Jeaneen McLennan opened proceedings by thanking Landcare volunteers for working hard alongside Traditional Owners to protect country and said; "I congratulate Landcare NT on the launch of its website."

Madam Speaker Kezia Purick welcomed guests to Parliament House and spoke of the importance of Landcare connecting communities in protecting their local natural environment, saying: "Through Landcare, communities can get together with their neighbours to protect their local natural sites."

Chair Sue McKinnon acknowledged the support of the NT Legislative Assembly for the launch. "This launch of the Landcare NT website is an important milestone for Landcare NT, which incorporated only two years ago to support local Landcare groups. Landcare NT now provides a community-based network for Territory Landcare for the first time, through the National Landcare Network.

"The website will connect community members with their local Landcare group, promote Landcare events and activities and encourage everyone to get involved in community Landcare."

In demonstrating the site, Coordinator Anna Boustead said that the Landcare NT website shows how it is fun, free and open to everybody.

"When we designed the site we wanted to make it as easy as possible for visitors to get in touch with their local Landcare group and to understand that Landcare is much more than planting trees - it can include anything from environmental education to bird watching to land management planning. It is a great way to get to know your neighbours and learn more about the amazing wildlife and plants you have at your back door."

Landcare NT thanks Madam Speaker, Hon Kezia Purick for hosting the launch event.

Landcare NT also acknowledges the support of the Australian Government National Landcare Programme for funding the development of the Landcare NT website through the National Landcare Network.
