NT Field Naturalists’ Club Welcomes New President Chris Spooner!

NT Field Naturalists’ Club has welcomed Chris Spooner as the new President, after the recent resignation of former president, Andrew Bell.

Chris is a wildlife/bird photographer who loves living in Darwin, where he relocated after a work stint first brought him here in 2018. He has now lived in Darwin for three years and has been an NTFN club member since not long after arriving in 2018; soon after he became a committee member. When the President's position became available, Chris was nominated as a likely candidate, which he accepted.

In other good news, Chris reports that the NTFN Club enrolled a record number of new members at the Native Plant Society plant sale held at Riyala recently and got to meet many like-minded people on the day as well.

Chris looks forward to seeing the club grow, and the relationships with Landcare and other like-minded clubs flourish as well.

“I believe we have close ties and beliefs, and that these clubs complement each other,” Chris states.

Top image: Chris holding an injured Rufous Owlet which he helped rescue and get to the vet for assessment and xrays. Despite a broken bone the bird was released and healed naturally and was able to fly and hunt. Chris photographed the bird and its sibling over a period of a couple of months while they grew up.
