Some exciting updates are unfolding in 2025 for Palmerston Conservation Landcare Group, as projects and activities take shape and efforts gain recognition in the wider community!
Recent rain has seen the Mitchell Creek start to flow nicely and getting to know where the water flows through future regen sites has led the group on some fun adventures! Volunteers have enjoyed many moments to stop and appreciate the beautiful wildlife, from the rainbow of birds, agile wallabies quietly feeding, and bandicoots darting through the undergrowth.
Removal of vines is a priority for the group as the wet season hits to prevent the extra weight on the canopies snapping branches or bringing whole trees down. A hot but very rewarding job.
A meeting onsite saw the beginning of a species list being compiled for the Hawker Park bushland in Zuccoli so decisions can be made around suitable species for plantings.
A very exciting highlight in January was having group member Katie Grimshaw receive the honour of being nominated for an Australian of the Year Award through the City of Palmerston Australia Day Awards for her contribution to our local environment; an amazing achievement for Katie and for everyone in their local group and for Landcare in the NT!
On Sunday the 2 March the Palmerston Conservation Group will be joining the City of Palmerston for Clean Up Australia Day at Hobart Park in Johnston. It will be a great day out and an opportunity for the community to connect with Landcare and be part of an amazing community making a real difference!
