The countdown to the Top End Eco Fair and Plant Sale is on, and this year’s program is packed with opportunities to learn, explore and get hands-on with nature.
Join us at Jingili Water Gardens on Saturday 22 August from 8:30am–3pm for a free day of native plants, expert talks, guided walks, kids activities and plenty more.
2,000 free native plants
Get in early! City of Darwin is giving away 2,000 native plants from 8:30am–11am, or while stocks last. It’s a great opportunity to take home locally suited plants and create more habitat for wildlife in your own backyard.
Learn from local experts
Want to know more about gardening in the Top End? Throughout the day, local experts will share practical advice on identifying and caring for native plants, understanding your soil, irrigation, designing a native garden, gardening for wildlife and attracting birds to your backyard. You can also join guided walks through Jingili Water Gardens to discover more about our local plants, their ecology and the wildlife they support.
Explore Jingili Community Garden
From 11am–12pm, take a stroll to one of Darwin’s longest-running community gardens and enjoy morning tea hosted by Jingili Community Garden and Lakeside Drive Community Garden.
ABC Saturday Gardener live
ABC Darwin Radio will be broadcasting live from the Eco Fair from 8:30am–11:30am, so come along and catch Saturday Gardener live from Jingili Water Gardens.
Plenty for the kids
The Kids Corner will run throughout the day, with plenty of ways for young nature lovers to learn, create and explore. The program includes an interactive puppet show, story time and clay making, iNaturalist for families, a Top End wildlife encounter and a guided family nature walk. Kids can also take on the Pollinator Quest – collecting stamps from participating stalls around the Eco Fair before visiting the Landcare NT stall to redeem a prize.
