Celebrate the Wet Season this school holidays with Creek Connections Nature Camps: a four-day program designed for young people aged 12–18 years. This immersive nature camp invites participants to explore their local creek catchments as they come to life with water, colour and movement.
Each day is packed with activities that connect young people with nature, art and local knowledge. Participants will have the opportunity to:
Walk local creeks and observe seasonal changes
Spot native birds, butterflies and other wildlife
Join night-time spotlighting sessions
Take part in hands-on art workshops inspired by nature
Led by local artists, youth workers and wildlife experts, including youth worker Mitch Rose, Larrakia knowledge-holder Leslie Gordon, and artists and educators Janie Andrews, Emma Lupin, and Nalani Sawyer.
The camp offers flexible participation. Young people can join the full program in their local catchment or attend individual days that suit their schedule. Each experience is designed to spark curiosity, build skills and strengthen connections to local places.

Creatures of the Creek: A Larrakia Perspective at Ludmilla Creek
Monday 12 January 2026 from 4:00pm – 6:00pm
Begin the journey with Larrakia knowledge-holder Leslie Gordon, who leads the opening session of Creek Connections Nature Camp. Together, we’ll explore the plants and animals of our urban creeks, learn a few animal names in Larrakia, and take part in a guided walk, story time and conversation along Ludmilla Creek.
This session is designed for young people aged 12-16 years. Those requiring a support person are welcome to attend with an adult.
A wet weather alternative may be held at Darwin Community Arts, depending on the day.
Creatures of the Creek Discovery Day
Tuesday 13 January 2026 from 9:30 am – 6:30 pm at Darwin Community Arts Centre, Ludmilla Creek, and Rapid Creek.
Kick off the wildlife day at Creek Connections Nature Camp with youth worker and BirdLife Top End member Mitch Rose, joined by Landcare NT educators. Start with birdwatching basics, then track lizards and record sightings using iNaturalist. The day includes a shared lunch and guided outings to local creeks.
The session begins at Darwin Community Arts, with creek visits by bus.

Creatures of the Creek Creative Day
Wednesday 14 January 2026 from 9:30am – 3:30pm at Darwin Community Arts Centre and Rapid Creek.
Spend a day immersed in creativity with local artist Janie Andrews and educator Emma Lupin. The session begins with sculpture making inspired by natural forms, followed by a shared lunch and an afternoon exploring patterns in nature through hands-on art.

Creatures of the Creek Close Encounters Day
Thursday 15 January 2026 from 9:30am – 3:30pm at Darwin Community Arts Centre, Rapid Creek, and Sandy Creek.
Get up close with the hidden homes and habitats of local wildlife during the Close Encounters Day. Join Landcare NT educators Nalani Sawyer and Emma Lupin for an immersive walk at Sandy Creek, exploring bark, burrows and natural shelters. After a shared lunch, the afternoon features a hands-on critter handling session.

Creatures of the Creek Spotlight Event
Thursday 15 January 2026 from 7:00pm – 8:30pm at Rapid Creek
Wrap up the catchment program with a spotlight adventure led by Landcare educators. Take a short walk along Rapid Creek and discover what comes to life after dark, learning about the animals that emerge as the light fades. Meeting location will be sent on RSVP
